Regarding Jason’s write up on the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ... There’s an interesting video where they drive the prototype very gently. It looks very promising, but clearly they still have a lot of work to do before it goes on sale:

I e often wondered why more electric cars don’t have solar panel roofs and hoods.
I’m guessing it has to do with adding weight vs actual energy returns . Plus so many people park in a garage, or even find shady spots to park when it’s hot out.
I think one thing a solar car will need is a blind system that covers the windows when the car is parked, or locked.

Llewellyn sounds a lot like Richard Attenborough’s character selling Jurassic Park.
I really hope this company makes it. With the high profile failures in electric car startups, I think skepticism probably makes it tougher.

My University’s solar car team used a Star Wars sunshade on our windshield to keep the interior cool while charging.
Still need to finish writing up my review of the car/ build process.

My guess is energy returns and the durability of the panels. Batteries are so heavy the solar panels are relatively
light. The glass that Lightyear is using to cover and protect the panels a large portion of the weight of the solar system.

Cost and aesthetics are also factors. For one thing, on the surfaces that have the solar cells, those can’t be painted. It will always be the same colour.

Yes... I hope they make it too... even as a low-volume boutique brand.
